MSA/SITES offers free bookmaking workshops with artist Amelia Steely
MARFA - The Marfa Studio of Arts is pleased to announce that artist Amelia Steely will offer two free workshops in bookmaking on Saturday, November 14 at 1pm and 3pm at the MSA/SITES Children’s Gallery and after school classroom space located at 106 San Antonio Street (Hwy. 90.)
The 1pm session will focus on simple techniques for creating traditional bound books, and the 3pm session will be devoted to designing alternative and altered books.

The workshops are geared for adults, artists, teachers, and older Jr./Sr. High School students.  All tools and materials will be supplied.

Amelia studied Fine Art at Pratt Institute and the New York Studio School and has worked at the Museum of Modern Art, PS1 MoMA, Slate Gallery, and the Crow Collection of Asian Art in Dallas.  She has been an intern at the Chinati Foundation for several months and has graciously volunteered her time in the MSA/SITES afterschool program throughout September and October.

This month, Amelia is also sharing her skills with the students and teaching artists at the Marfa Elementary School SITES program so that bookmaking can be incorporated into the SITES curriculum each year.  All of us at MSA/SITES applaud her commitment to bringing free, high-quality visual arts programming to the children and community of Marfa.

MSA/SITES programming is funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts, Mitchell Foundation, Brown Foundation, OfficeMax, City of Marfa, Department of Parks and Recreation, MSA Board members, generous individual donors and supported by the Marfa Independent School District.
